I’m a small-town country girl living in Western NY with my husband, German Shepherd, three cats (they love joining meetings), and our flock of chickens.
I started off pursuing my clinical license in health psychology. But in my late thirties, I put my life on pause after being diagnosed with a rare neurological disorder to explore what I truly wanted to do and leave behind the “shoulds.”
The answer was simple: I wanted to write. But, walking away from pursuing clinical licensure in mental health counseling was terrifying. After Don’t worry, I’m not a stuffy pretentious egghead. I’m actually quite a nerd obsessed with anything supernatural and true crime.
Passion for the win
I went back to school and got an MFA in creative writing from Full Sail University (yup, I’m a bit of an overachiever and valedictorian). My leap of faith paid off, and I knocked it out of the park. My second client after graduation was a NY Times bestselling author, and within a year, I was a freelance ghostwriter for Forbes Books. The first book I wrote became a bestseller!
Then I helped two startups launch their blogs, websites, and sales funnels as their Director of Brand Voice and Content. I worked with medical professionals, CEOs, and bestselling authors on blogs and ebooks. I collaborated with and learned from experts who have worked with places like Mind Valley and HBO.
A shove from the universe
After being laid off for the second time in two years due to funding issues, I decided to become a full-time ghostwriter. Within six months, I had a four-month waitlist.
Seeing the aha moments pop up in our calls and the delight on their faces as they confidently embraced their voice, quieted self-doubt, and pushed past writer’s block to complete their books lit up my soul.
But I was bummed. I could only write a handful of books a year and had to turn down incredible projects.
Then AI started blasting off. Every freaking day there was another “write your book quick” scheme popping up. So what happened? People jumped on the bandwagon and gave it a go. Heck, I even explored how AI could be used as a brainstorming tool.
AI sounded so much easier, quicker, and more affordable than hiring a ghostwriter. And yes, it certainly was (and is). The rub was AI writing lacks the emotion, intention, passion, and unique voice of a human writer.
The result was people got discouraged and even more overwhelmed because all these classes, articles, and videos were saying how easy it is to write a book. Sadly, they meant sterile, low-quality books flooding the marketplace.
I had enough
